Double-glazed oven doors are excellent for reducing heat loss and keeping the outside of the appliance cooler. Over time, however, grease, condensation, streaks, and cooking residue can accumulate between the two glass panes.

The difficulty is that this dirt is not on the easily accessible exterior surfaces but inside the narrow space between the panes. Before removing the oven door or taking the glass apart, you may be able to use a simple cleaning method to reach this area without interfering with the door’s mechanisms.

However, oven-door designs vary considerably. Always consult the appliance manual before inserting a cloth or cleaning tool into the door.

Make Sure the Oven Is Completely Cold

Before beginning, turn off the oven and allow it to cool completely. For additional safety, unplug the appliance or disconnect it from the power supply, especially if you will be working close to the door and its components.

Never attempt to clean the glass while the oven is hot. In addition to the  risk of burns, sudden temperature changes may damage or weaken the glass.
